Surgical treatment of displaced fractures of posterior column and posterior wall of the of the acetabulum.

We read with interest the article entitled "Surgical treatment of displaced fractures of posterior column and posterior wall of the of the acetabulum".We appreciate the good final functional results in their series; however, we would like to comment on some aspects of the treatment protocol.In their study, the authors did not use CT scans, and suggest that plain films might be enough for surgical planning. We agree that plain films in standard views are the core of the surgical plan, however, specifically in posterior wall fracture dislocations, the CTscan is very important in assessment of intra-articular loose bony fragments, and leads the surgeon to search thoroughly for the fragment during surgery, as if the fragment is displaced in the anterior and inferior area of the hip it may be easily missed. We do believe that CTscan should be currently part of the preoperative assessment of these fractures.
