From Paper to Electronic Content Database The Irish Land Registry Document Imaging Project

The Irish Land Registry (ILR) is the state authority responsible for registration of real property transactions in the Republic of Ireland. It operates within the aegis of the Minister for Justice Equality and Law Reform and is under the control and management of the Chief Executive/Registrar of Deeds and Titles who is an independent statutory/Registrar of Deeds and Titles who is an independent statutory officer appointed by the government. It was established in 1892 and its function is to provide a system of registration of title to land which would be secure, reliable, effecive and acessible. The register maintained in ILR is conclusive evidence of title to roperty and any right, privilege, appuretenance or burden appearing thereon. In Ireland the system carries a state guarantee; the registers are public records open to all, subject to payment of the prescribed fee.
