The familiar U.S. food guidance pyramid-a staple on food packages since 1992-has a sleek new look as well as its own website at mypyramid.gov. The "my" in the site address explains the new approach: Those with computer access can visit the site and build their own pyramid, based on 12 caloric intake levels from 1,000 calories per day to 3,200 per day. Whereas the former system used only a 2,000-calorie intake, the new approach allows individuals to prepare personal dietary advice that suits their age, gender and activity level.
