Keeping in tune with the Obama Stimulus Package andits subsidies for biofuels production, several companies anduniversities are engaging in active biofuel research. Sincelow-process economics and green processes are part of thescheme, enzymes are being seen as viable components forthe production process. Although enzymes are traditionallyconceived to be fragile and expensive, new research offersscope on quicker large scale implementation.Demonstration and pilot plant studies are also beingundertaken; thanks to specialized grants assignedexclusively for. the same. Other countries in Europe andelsewhere are also keen in developing newer enzymemediated processes for biofuel production.
