Golden Autumn in Qingdao

When the rest of the world appears to be facing recession and the prospect of tough economic times ahead, China and East Asia appear to represent a beacon of light amidst the market gloom. This feeling was strongly reflected by the buzz and bustle that characterised the upbeat atmosphere of our well attended 4th Chinese Industrial Minerals Conference, Qingdao 2001: China in Change (CIMC4), which was organised in association with the China Chamber of Commerce Metals, Minerals Importers & Exporters (CCCMC). The meeting took place on 10-12 October 2001, at the Shangri-La Hotel, Qingdao, Shandong province - a famous ex-German colony, beach resort, and perhaps more renown amongst international businessmen as home to one of the nation's favourite brews, Qingdao beer.
