Alabama Graphite Corps flagship Coosa project is located in east-central, Alabama, US. As the only advanced-stage graphite project in the continental US, it is located in the heart of the Alabama graphite belt. This belt of a graphitic schist stretches from northeast Alabama through central Alabama for approximately 110km. This belt was developed at the outset of WWI when 30 processing plants and several dozen mines produced flake graphite for crucibles and foundry molds to assist in the Allied war effort. Historically, the state of Alabama has contributed one half of all the graphite produced in the US. However all graphite production ceased in the 1940s as cheaper graphite flooded the market and prices collapsed.
