Comparative Study of Bilateral Internal iliac (Hypogastric) Artery Ligation and Other Surgical procedures in Management of Pelvic Haemorrhage

Objective : To find out the effectiveness of bilateral internal iliac artery ligation and other surgical procedures to control pelvic harmorrhage as life saving procedure. Materails and Methods : During the period in said Deptt and said Institution,we had managed 17(Seventeen) cases of pelvic harmorrhage by bilateral internal iliac artery ligation in one group and other surgical methods (Compression sutures &B-Lynch stitches, Stepwise devascularisation- uterine and utro-ovarian artery ligation, emergency hysterectomy, exploratory laparotomy/Re-opening with proceeds) in other group. Results : The bilateral internal iliac artery ligation group showed with 100% success rate to control harmorrhage with zero mortality but in other surgical methods group controlled 55.5% success rate with additional bilateral internal iliac artery ligation in 44.4% cases with 2(two) death. Conclusion : Whatever may be the aetiology of pelvic harmorrhage, bilateral internal iliac artery ligation is the choice as life saving procedure to pelvic harmorrhage.
