Gladiolus is grown in many parts of the world for cut flower and garden display purposes. Traditionally, it is propagated through corms. However, this method takes 10 years to produce a clone which is large enough for commercial plantings. Micropropagation is especially useful for producing bulbs and corms, which are generally slow to multiply. In-vitro propagation of gladiolus has previously been demonstrated by various workers (Meiraziv et al., 2; Wilfert, 4; Hussey, 1; Ziv 5). Despite extensive work done on tissue culture in gladiolus, a commercially viable process for its mass multiplication has not yet been perfected (Hussey, 1). Therefore, an experiment was conducted Io identify the effect of plant growth regulators for mass multiplication in cultivar, Friendship, which is being widely cultivated in India for its attractive pink flower spikes both for domestic and foreign markets.
