Success of veneer and cleft grafting at different grafting heights of seedling rootstocks in Dashehari mango

Mango is most important fruit crop of India. The productivity of mango in India is about 9.23 tonnes/ha contributing 51.16 percent to the world mango production. Vegetative methods such as inarching, veneer grafting, cleft grafting, stone grafting, soft wood grafting and budding have been employed in mango propagation (Ram, 9). Veneer grafting has been proved to be more effective than other methods of grafting in India (Ram and Bist, 10). Cleft grafting was suggested for top-working having rootstock of greater diameter than the scion (Singh, 12). No work has been done to determine grafting height with reference to its effect on success, growth, yield, fruit quality and tree architecture. In this communication, results of the investigations are reported to find out the effect of grafting height on grafting success in mango cultivar Dashehari.
