A roundtable discussion: Getting to the heart of the PM debate

Welcome to BI&T's roundtable on best practices in preventive maintenance (PM). Let's start with a big-picture question. PM is one of those topics that can set off a lot of debate in the HTM community. Why is that? I think the debate has gotten bigger because of the financial pressures put on the healthcare industry. We have lean initiatives, competition for internal resources, and even competition for outside suppliers for the business. And it can even create friction between these three groups that are competing for the same business. It creates an unwillingness to share at times. There's also a cost/benefit puzzle, kind of like when you're buying insurance. How much is too much? How much is not enough? That enters into the debate, also.
