Sources of resistance to sheath blight disease of rice caused by Rhizoctonia solani Kuhn.

Advanced breeding lines and landraces of cultivated rice and some wild O. nivara accessions observed to be resistant or moderately resistant to sheath blight (Thanatephorus cucumeris) were evaluated for resistance to the same disease under artificial inoculation conditions in Ludhiana, Punjab, India, during the kharif seasons of 2005 and 2006. A total of 2546 germplasm entries (including 175 accessions of O. nivara) were evaluated. Only 3 rice landraces (IC 114618, IC 114727 and IC 334220) and 3 O. nivara accessions (IRGC 81940, IRGC 81941 and IRGC 81941A) were resistant/moderately resistant against sheath blight in 2006 and 2007. All the other lines were susceptible.
