Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L) is cultivated under diverse agro-ecological niches such as rainfed and irrigated, mixed and mono crop, low- and high-input conditions. It is subjected to various biotic and abiotic stresses. Among biotic stresses, insect pests and diseases are major bottlenecks in realizing its potential yield. Chickpea wilt caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. ciceri (Foc) is prevalent in most of the chickpea-growing countries. It is estimated that wilt cause 10-15% yield loss annually inIndia, and can cause 100% losses under specific conditions (4). It can affect chickpea crop at any stage, viz. seedlings (3-5 weeks after sowing) and adult (reproductive) stages. Of the available management approaches, host-plant resistance (HPR) is themost reliable, economical and effective method of managing chickpea. Keeping in view, present study was undertaken to find out the status of wilt incidence in Jammu subtropics and to identify host-plant resistance (HPR) that can be recommended for development of resistant varieties in chickpea.
