Bait technique for isolation of Pythium aphanidermatum from soil.

Results are presented of a study conducted to develop suitable techniques and cheap medium for isolation of Pythium aphanidermatum from soil. The solid media used were: V-8 juice agar, Czapek's agar, potato dextrose agar, oatmeal agar, Polyalthia longifolia (leaf agar), Catharanthus roseus (leaf) agar, Datura metel (leaf) agar, tobacco seedlings extract agar (without leaf) and Jatropha leaf agar. The oatmeal agar was significantly superior and the most effective medium for density mycelial as well as dry mycelial weight followed by potato dextrose agar and V-8 juice agar.
