HERE IS CITROEN'S new rival to the Mini Convertible and Fiat 500C. A soft-top DS3 makes sense: despite the climatic mayhem that blights our summers, the UK remains one of the biggest markets for convertibles, and Citroen's stylish DS range has proved popular here, too. The DS3 Cabrio shares the 500C's 'sardine tin' style of roof opening, in which the canvas roof concertinas back on to the rear quarters of the car. Such a set-up might be stretching the strict definition of a 'cabriolet', but it also has merit. More of the hard-top's structure remains, so less chassis strengthening is required. The DS3 Cabrio has extra cross-bracing at the top of the boot space, while weights are mounted within the rear overhang to counteract the vibrations that are common in cabriolet designs.
