The Vauxhall Monza coupe concept's dazzling, full-width back-projection digital dashboard is just as much a taste of things to come as its new exterior design Ianguage. Vauxhall was very clear at Frankfurt about the significance of the exterior styling of the Monza concept. With some modification, the front end, raked-back windscreen and athletic body shape are the template for the next Corsa, Astra, Insignia and so on. Less obvious was the importance of the interior or, more specifically, the back-projection digital dashboard and its bright, seamlessly flowing display of graphics. Similar types of computerised dashboards have been dummied up in countless concepts over the decades, but engineers at Vauxhall-Opel parent GM are now convinced that the technology to put such a vast infotainment screen into series production will be developed in the next seven to 10 years.
