Never mind the Evora; Ferrari was making mid-engined 2+2s 25 years ago. This week's near-miss is mid-engined, usually red, has a V8 that yells to 7700rpm and bears the prancing horse. But the Mondial is far from the most desirable of Ferraris, even if it was one of the most popular (over 6000 were made during a surprisingly long 13-year production run that began in 1980). Why? Because the Ferraris of our dreams are preferred with two seats rather than four, and because of some curious proportioning, caused by the challenge of trying to crowbar an extra pair of places into a mid-engined supercar.
