Big cars and Italy... it's not a great track record. Lancia Thesis, Alfa 166, Lancia Kappa, Fiat Croma, Fiat Argenta, Alfa 90, Iso Lele... the failures have been glorious. There have been one or two successes, the Alfa 164 and today's Maserati Quattroporte among them, though most of the Maser's predecessors were anything but. Yet it was the original Quattroporte that inspired Iso, the tiny Milanese company that was already making the Grifo coupe, to build a big saloon.
