MG6 1.8T: 28.1.10, Shanghai China restyles and re-engineers the old Rover 75

THIS IS THE CAR with which the MG brand will re-enter the volume car market in the UK: the MG6. Designed at Shanghai Automotive's technical centre at Longbridge, the MG6 is a family hatch that's roughly the same size as a Skoda Octavia. Based on SAIC's Roewe 550, this car can trace its roots back to the Rover 75. But for the MG version, the engine, chassis, body and cabin have all been overhauled. SAIC plans to build these cars at MG Rover's old Loingbridge plant for sale across the UK and Ireland. Our test car, however, was built at the Chinese firm's Nanjing factory.
