A field experiment was conducted to assess the effect of moisture conservation practices and fertilizer application on productivity of rainfed groundnut during kharif in 1999, 2000 and 2001 at Phulbani, Orissa. Moisture conservation practices increased water content in upper soil layer at the time of critical dryspell. Polymulch, greenleaf mulch and greenleaf incorporation reduced dry weight of weeds by 85, 50 and 37% and total weed population by 93, 50 and 43%, respectively at 20 days after crop germination during 2000. Polymulch recorded higher pods plant~(-1), pod yield and net returns. Greenleaf mulch gave more or less similar net returns as polymulch. Polymulch or greenleaf mulch 41 ha~(-1) at planting and integrated nutrient supply through Rhizobium inoculation and 50% recommended fertilizer is recommended for higher productivity of rainfed groundnut.
