Agricultural and basic sciences have long worked hand-in-hand to produce the highest yields in areas such as crop, livestock and fisheries, which are more nutritious and healthy per unit input, thus leading to the most efficient and profitable farmingsystems. Globalisation, liberalisation of trade, and rapidly increasing urbanisation are fuelling increased demand and competition for livestock foods and other products and services. Among these, dairy products are more important because a large percentage of Indian population is vegetarian, whose requirements are met by the dairy industry. Therefore, various opportunities for growth in this field are rising. However, the emerging dairy companies, especially related to milk processing and product marketing , need to come up with innovative solutions and offer more attractive products in order to sustain the growth of dairy industry. The effective approach to meet such a challenge efficiently is to deploy automated systems and help them to plan for enhancing the processes of procurement, processing, productdevelopment and marketing while leveraging existing systems to derive maximum businessbenefits for all players starting from the milk to consumer of milk and dairy products.
