Tests were performed to investigate the effectiveness of synthetic fibres in controlling restrained plastic shrinkage cracking in different concrete mixes subjected to various environmental conditions. Based on the results obtained from the tests, the following conclusions are drawn. The synthetic fibres are effective in reducing the extent of shrinkage cracking area and crack widths. Higher the rate of free water surface evaporation, higher the crack area all the concrete mixes. Higher the cement - aggregate ratio, higher the crack area or maximum crack width in all the drying environments. Even at very low fibre volume fractions of 0.05 percent, about, 17 percent crack reduction has been observed. Addition of 0.3 percent) fibre volume fraction, results in nearly 80 percent crack reduction.
