Response of fattening hogs (Sus domesticus) to varying levels of sucrose supplementation

Feed additives are utilized in swine feeding for better growth performance and feed efficiency. Economic viability of the swine industry is, however, hindered by the ever-increasing prices of feedstuffs, feed additives and growth enhancers. A cheap feed additive such as sucrose must therefore be evaluated for use in seine feeding, hence this study. Twelve piglets of similar weights were purchased and distributed following a randomized complete block design (RCBD). Three treatments were replicated four times with a caged hog representing each replicate. The three dietary treatments were randomly distributed to the 12 individually caged hogs.
