Hog industry potential in Mindanao

The lowest cost of pork production in the world is probably in Mindanao according to an executive of PIC, a world producer of hogs and listed in the London Stock Exchange. Right now the cost of production of some of the commercial companies are already below P40 a kilo. With proper genetics, sanitation, and marketing the hog industry in Mindanao could be world class. Our next step is to transfer these efficiencies of the commercial companies to the backyard producers who still produce 75 percent of the pork in the country.
