Composite impact analysis for F1

A CAE process used to meet impact requirements for Stewart Grand Prix racecars can help to improve the impact performance of passenger-car composite structures. For the 1998 Formula One race season, the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) governing body made significant changes to overall racecar technical specifications that had a major impact on side-impact certification of the chassis. The new requirements included a vehicle track reduction of 200 mm (7.9 in.), which resulted in a reduced side-impact crush zone and more restrictive packaging.
