Ford invests for 21st century design and engineering

Funding automotive research, engineering, and technology is an expensive business, but every major company must find the money to support these crucial areas if they are to design and produce cars to meet not only environmental requirements, but also the demands of a customer base that is ever more discerning in its expectations of product quality, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. In Europe, Ford's new $200 million facilities at its Dunton Engineering center in the UK have been officially opened by Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Alex Trotman, but he used the opportunity to announce still more spending—an extra $60 million—most of which will provide an enhanced Environmental Test Laboratory. And Trotman said further investment was being considered for Dunton.
