Drug Discovery for Neurodegeneration - inaugural Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Foundation meeting.

The Drug Discovery for Neurodegeneration meeting was organized and supported by the Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Foundation (ADDF), a public charity affiliated with the Institute for the Study of Aging (ISOA). Howard Fillit, Executive Director of ISOA and ADDF (USA), gave the opening and closing remarks. The aim of the meeting was to bring together members of academia and the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries to discuss the challenges of drug discovery and development in the area of neurodegenerative diseases, in particular Alzheimer's disease (AD), and to facilitate productive working relationships between the different groups. The meeting forum was interactive and intimate, with approximately 125 attendees, allowing for effective networking and relationship building. Sub-topics of the meeting ranged from target identification and validation to preclinkal and clinical drug development Discovery hit-to-lead optimization from both a biological and medicinal chemistry perspective was discussed, as was improved drug delivery methodologies for the CNS. Two interesting sessions addressed the importance of CROs, technology transfer offices and business development departments in the advancement of AD drug development
