Dragline jigsaw no puzzle for Newlands

Mackay's REB Engineering, a division of Trans-field Services (one of Australia's largest maintenance and operations companies) is re-erecting a huge Marion 8750 Dragline for Newlands Coal at the company's Newlands coal mine near Glenden, west of Mackay. REB Engineering operations manager Peter Cameron says the 6300t dragline had arrived in Australia in pieces around nine months ago. "Newlands Coal bought the dragline in Canada where it has been used to mine tar sands, which in turn is processed into crude oil for the North American market. It was then dismantled and shipped to Australia in pieces," he says. "Even though the machine only arrived in Australia last August, we have been working on the project since early 2003, when we flew a project management team to Canada to assess the dragline and provide Newlands Coal with a clear strategy and approach in our tender documentation.
