Utilities in parts of western Inner Mongolia will be allowed to raise coal-fired electricity rates by up to 10pc starting next month, as Chinese authorities try to cope with the impact of rising thermal coal prices. Coal-fired electricity prices in the region, one of China's key coal producing provinces, will be allowed to rise by no more than 10pc from the electricity base tariff rate of 0.2829 yuan/kWh ($0.043/kWh) starting in August, according to the local branch of main economic planning agency the NDRC.
