The hallmark of scientific validity is confirmation of experimental results. When we read about something new, unless it is some dreaded complication, we want to be able to replicate those results. As plastic surgery has become more scientific, our knowledge of what reproducibility of results means has become more sophisticated. Now we understand that we cannot assume that there is causal relationship between observations and outcomes unless the data surpass a statistical threshold to exclude random events. We must be able to understand what it means when we reject the null hypothesis. We no longer can mimic the 4-year-old who exclaims, "My P value is smaller than yours; so my results are better!"
