OF ALL the gardens to visit in London, my favourite isn't a palace or court garden. It's not even the fabled, beautiful and learned hectares of Kew Botanic Gardens. In fact, if I hadn't been looking for this particular garden, I'd have walked right past its high, old-brick walls without realising what treasure lies inside. Quietly occupying a small plot of English ground on the bank of the River Thames, the Chelsea Physic Garden is England's second-oldest botanic garden. For three centuries, while the great city of London sprawled and belched around it, the Chelsea Physic Garden has continued its unbroken tradition of studying and conserving plants. In a little more than 1.4 hectares, it houses an impressive collection of medicinal plants from all over the world.
