Conservation charities: spearhead new farm land ownership agenda

Like them or loathe them, conservation groups are a now a conspicuous presence on the rural landscape, both as arger scale landholders and as powerful lobbyists on such contentious issues as vegetation clearing and catchment protection. Some graziersstill consider them exclusion-ist for removing property from production. But the conservationist groups argue that they are not only improving productivity by promoting healthy landscapes and ecosystems, but they are also effectively managing the commonscourges of wildfire, feral animals and noxious weeds.
