The island has a float body constructed from support tube elements (1) to form a support frame for a water-permeable mat or net (4), which holds a substrate covered with a protective mat, to hold plants. Support tubes extend radially outwards from a central connection element (2) and are hinged as buoyancy elements. A cord element (3) connected between the outer ends of the support tubes forms a support frame with the support tube elements.
