Prediction for food scarcity will change the agribusiness farmer relationship

In Rabobank's view the world is facing a period of significant agri-commodity scarcity that is set to last for at least this decade and which signals the start of a profound transition in the global food and agribusiness (F&A) sector.The transition to an era of scarcity demands a lasting change to sourcing strategies. The message is simple: things really are different this time. There is still significant potential to develop agricultural production in certain regions of the world, such as Africa, South America, Asia, the Black Sea region and Russia, where production is behind global averages. But given the difficulties inherent in frontier land development, it is hard to judge if the returns available can meet the expectations of investors, governments, local communities and, ultimately, the consumer.
