New generation pre-emergentherbicide release on track for 2012

Bayer CropScience has received a research permit from the APVMA to allow large-scale evaluation trials of Sakura (Group K herbicide), its much anticipated pre-emergent herbicide. The trials, conducted with distributors and advisors under commercial farm conditions, will allow the performance of Sakura seen in scientific trials to be validated using farmers' sowing and spraying equipment at more than 200 sites across Australia. As part of the large-scale permit, Bayer is also conducting several trialsof up to 60-100 hectares to evaluate the performance of Sakura through commercial spraying equipment in larger batches. These trials are the final phase in the development of Sakura prior to commercial release and are designed to identify any issues that may arise from use through grower equipment and farming systems.
