People who take an interest in changes to tax law or who follow closely announcements made each year by our federal treasurer in relation to the annual federal budget may recall from 2009, that assets held in companies used for private purposes by shareholders or directors were now going to be taxable. This included the situation where a family farming property may be owned in a company structure, and the family concerned lives in a house situated on that property.
