A Study of the Farmers Home Administration's Family Farm Definition and Specific Criteria to be Used for Establishing Maximum Limits in the Determination of Eligible Family Size Farms

The study was made to determine the adequacy of Farmers Home Administration's (FmHa) 'Family Farm' definition and specific criteria to be used for establishing maximum limits in the determination of eligible family size farms. The results of the study indicated that FmHA regulations be revised to include specific criteria as maximum limits on a national basis to define family farms. Also, FmHA should revise the eligibility requirements to prevent the making of loans to applicants that have a reasonable non-farm income and should strengthen the role of the county committee in the certification of applicants and borrowers in regards to family size farms.
