I often walk through airports and during the early part of running my business I was never stopped by any Customs for something as demeaning as a search through my luggage. I was convinced that my angelic and intelligent face and good Presbyterian upbringing alerted those customs inspectors that here is indeed an innocent man. That was until I shared this theory with a friend of mine who was quite senior in customs, who then proceeded to tell me that only the stupid looking ones are consistently letthrough without searches. Of late, like the rest of us faced with the rigours of airport security, I have to slow the pace of my journey while some fastidious searcher rifles through my assortment of files, and before they zip up I exclaim accusingly that my cheese sandwiches have gone missing.
