To say that Casella Wines' Griffith-based winery is big would be an understatement. With four state-of-the art bottling lines (one that produces 36,000 bottles an hour), 256ML of storage facility, and four large warehouses, it is the largest processing facility of any kind in Australia. Grapegrower & Winemaker journalist, Katherine Lindh, visited the Casella winery in April this year, to talk with Casella about how they automate winery processes. In 1969, the winery consisted of a farmhouse, a few barrels and a shed. Today, the original winery still remains, however, now it houses four major warehouses (one of those an area of 16,512m2), four bottling line facilities, a small cask line, two contemporary winery labs, and 730 stainless steel tanks, ranging from 1000 litres to 1.1ML.
