The Gillard Government's latest budget strikes another blow at smaller exploration companies with its decision that tax deductions for the purchase of mining exploration licences will no longer be available in the year that the mining licence is purchased. Instead the deductions will be spread over 15 years or the mining lifetime, whichever is shorter, effectively tying up capital that until now has always been available in the capital intensive critical first year of a junior mining company's life cycle.
