Botswana is one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world, according to the Fraser Institute 2011/12 mining survey and the country's Government is keen to capitalise on its reputation to expand its resources industry.Botswana was ranked 11th overall and number one in Africa as a mining destination in the survey which is based on the perceptions of 600 mining executives and exploration managers.Such standings are testament to the country's mineral policy and action against corruption, which came to the fore as standout attributes in the eyes of those surveyed. While the Fraser Institute rating is somewhat of a badge of honour, especially in a climate where talk of nationalised resources sectors and new taxes has been on the lips of some governments, the Botswana Government is far from basking in the current limelight.
