Consumers wanting to replace milk in their diets with a nutritious alternative have rapidly increasing choices, with non-dairy 'milks' moving out of specialist health and into the mainstream, according to Innova Market Insights.The past 12 months have seen a boom in non-dairy 'milk' launches recorded on the Innova Market Insights database (www.innovadatabase.com).Soy 'milks' have traditionally dominated the sector and still feature in 78% of dairy alternative drink launches, either as a main or secondary ingredient. But there has been rising interest in the use of other plant-based alternatives, including cereals (rice, oats and barley) and nuts (almonds, hazelnuts and walnuts).
