Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Aksel Ivanovich Berg almost 50 years ago stated that researchers in biology should cooperate with engineers, physicists, and mathematicians to provide mutual exchange of knowledge and ideas. Academician of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences Petr Andreevich Kupriyanov, world-famous surgeon, supported this opinion. Many organizations in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kiev, Tomsk, etc. also supported this opinion. The Scientific Council for Cybernetics organized special seminars for biological cybernetics and bionics. Such cooperation required engineers of new type with special training skills. The engineers should be competent in biology and medicine and capable of designing fundamentally new bio-medical apparatuses based on modern achievements in physics, chemistry, electronics, and material sciences. This also required new approaches to biomedical engineering technology in living objects and interpretation of medical information.
