It is not every year that the Maritimes can boast having a Royal Grand Champion, but this was one of those years. After dominating the shows in the east and being named Supreme Champion Bull at the Victoriaville, Quebec, beef show, MFS Junior 3A tookon the 2014 Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto. The bull, owned by Spud Island Farms of Cornwall, P.E.I., came away with the banner for Grand Champion Bull in the National Simmental Show after placing first in his class and winning the title of Junior Champion Bull.The Simmental breed was well represented by Maritime beef producers. Brady Matheson's BJM Queen Lolynda 4B was fourth in the third split of Simmental heifer calves. In the fifth split of calves, Lobster Point Properties' LPP Miss Noremac 6B came away with fifth place. In the following split, DJ's Ms. Mercedes 7B, exhibited by DJ Simmentals, was awarded a sixth-place ribbon.
