Bonsai in Los Angeles Part Two -- The Nurseries

Bonsai nurseries play an extremely important role in the growth and excellence of bonsai. They provide bonsai stock, pots, tools and other essentials necessary for the serious bonsaiist. Many also provide valuable instruction. Nurseries not mentionedin the previous article (BONSAI Magazine, Volume 44, Number 4, pp. 4 - 9 and 41) include the San Gabriel Nursery and Florist in the town of San Gabriel, opened in 1923 by Fred Yoshimura. This may be the first Japanese owned nursery in Los Angeles. It was originally called the Mission Nursery and was located across the street on San Gabriel Blvd.
