The invention relates to a method for loading at least one bicycle onto a bicycle carrier (1) detachably secured on the trailer coupling of a motor vehicle, wherein the bicycle carrier (1) has a frame (2) that is configured such that it can pivot between a transport position and a loading position in relation to a coupling device (5) provided on the bicycle carrier (1) by means of a lever mechanism (4) supported via at least one gas pressure spring (3), characterised by the following method steps: detachably securing a transport trolley (7), equipped with wheels (6) or castors, below the bicycle carrier (1); moving the bicycle carrier (1) towards thetrailer coupling of the motor vehicle with the transport trolley (7); aligning the coupling device (5) with a height level corresponding to the trailer coupling; securing the bicycle carrier (1) to the trailer coupling by means of an available clamping and/or screwing mechanism (9); detaching and removing the transport trolley (7) from the bicycle carrier (1); lowering the frame (2) down to the ground by means of the lever mechanism (4); introducing the at least one bicycle into the at least one wheel holder (10) provided for this purpose on the bicycle carrier (1), and securing the bicycle; and raising the frame (2) of the bicycle carrier (1) into the transport position by means of the available lever mechanism (4).
