Improvements in the signal-to-noise ratios for Fe, Ca, K, Na, and Li in ICP-MS, achieved primarily by reducing polyatomic spectral background allowed these important elements to be detected at ng/L levels. The optimization of plasma and sample introduction conditions to cool the plasma for this determination are described. [References: 4]
