A landmark for the iranian biomedical community: The first iranian annual congress on progress in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine

摘要

The general concept of tissue regeneration and repair entered Iranian biomedical research in the 1980s. The country's first publications in this field were focused on enhancement of tissue repair in surgical patients, whereas biomaterials appeared in published reports from 1995. Tissue engineering has steadily expanded over the last decade in Iran by a self-motivated and organized movement of scientists in different fields of engineering, biology, and medicine. This movement has resulted in training of scientists, transfer of knowledge, and setting up of appropriate laboratory facilities not only in academic centers, but also in the industrial sector. The strong infrastructure that has been built by self-assembly of all these elements ensures a sustainable development in regenerative medicine in this country.
