Some thoughts on the use of replacement alternatives for toxicity testing and risk assessment

In the Editorial for the November issue of Archives of Toxicology, Bolt and Hengstler (2008) added to the debate about the use of replacement alternatives for toxicity testing by discussing two papers that appeared in a list of the top 20 most highly cited publications in the journal for 2007.1 should like to add what I believe to be some important additions and qualifications to their comments#
