Tertiary Care-Immersion Program Perspective

The 1998 Expert Committee Recommendations and the recent 2007 recommendations represent important attempts by major healthcare organizations in the United States to advise frontline healthcare providers of concrete steps that they could take to help battle the pediatric obesity epidemic. The recent revision added substantial specificity and detail to those recommendations. The purpose of the present comment is to present the opinions of four healthcare professionals all of whom are quite familiar with the immersion approach to treatment about the most and least useful aspects of these new recommendations. We also will suggest three things that we believe could improve them.
