US Gulf refineries could shut down much earlier when faced with hurricane threats this year,as refiners consider the lessons from last year's active storm season.Shutting down refineries sooner appears at first glance likely to prolong any supply shortfall.But refiners think that a properly managed shutdown ahead of a weather threat will enable their refineries to resume operations more quickly,offsetting production losses caused by the earlier shut-ins.
